American Horror Story Coven's "Lalaurie House"
If you are watching American Horror Story Coven you might be familiar with the “Lalaurie House” owned by Madame Lalaurie in the 1830’s, considered the torture chamber on Royal Street and one of New Orleans most famous and haunted houses. Nicholas Cage, bought the property in 2006 for $3.4 million but lost it due to financial problems, the house is now owned by Michael Whalen, who commissioned Houston-based interior designer Katie Stassi-Scott to renovate the early 19th-century, stucco-over-brick mansion he’d bought in the French Quarter.
Much of its architectural detailing date back to 1837 when the mansion went through several renovations, including elaborate ceiling medallions, carved doors, Greek columns and an intricate frieze of winged angels in the dining room, one of the home’s most stunning features.
Stassi-Scott ‘s vision for the house was to incorporate home’s history, playing off the past while giving it a more contemporary edge.
