History of Feathers in Fashion

A new exhibition in Antwerp explores the history of feathers in fashion
“Birds of Paradise,” currently on view at the Mode Museum in Antwerp, is an exhibition that examines the use of feathers in fashion, from the use ostrich feather in the 1920’s as a symbol of high status to the extraordinary creations of Alexander McQueen.  Though designers no longer use exotic feathers due to the high cost and conservation confers, there a many ways designers are creating beautiful pieces without using them.
