THE EAMES CHAIR JUST GOT AN ECO-FRIENDLY MAKEOVER

Greek designer Spyros Kizis has created a new chair—with design elements that call to mind the famed Eames chair—called the Artichair, which, according to Curbed, is created from a new kind of plastic made from artichokes.

The biodegradable plastic is a 100 percent naturally derived and is comprised of wild artichoke thistle fibers and waste cooking oil, making it one of the most eco-friendly options on the market.

But don’t let its unconventional materials overshadow the Artichair’s sleek design. Anything that pays homage to the Eames chair is worth a second look.

The Earth-friendly material has a raw, rustic look, but can be molded into other shapes, meaning the artichoke-infused plastic could potentially be used to create a full range of furniture with a similarly low carbon footprint.
