Cash prizes are awarded in each category, as well as a People’s Choice award and a Best of Show award.

Student projects may be entered in chair, table, case good, “Open”, “Production for Design” or musical instrument categories. Students must submit an essay and photographs of their finished project for preliminary judging. If selected as a finalist, the project will be on display at the AWFS Fair in Las Vegas, a biennial woodworking industry trade show (shipping paid by AWFS), and the student is invited to attend the AWFS Fair (travel and hotel allowance provided). The final judging takes place – and the winners are announced- at the AWFS Fair.

Judging is done by an independent panel of woodworking industry professionals (approximately five) representing various sectors such as manufacturing, retail, education, design and wood related trade press. All entries are reviewed by the judges prior to the AWFS®Fair to determine the finalists to be exhibited at the show
