Les Dada East, Paris
Architect Joshua Florquin was in charge of the overall design of Les Dada East hair salon in Paris. The space is quite simple and very minimal, but he decided to create a focal point through the layered plywood hexagon panels on the ceiling. His design concept derives from the idea of a forest of a sunny day. In hope of replicating this environment within an inner-city building, he created the three-layered birch plywood hexagonal ceiling with integrated lighting, intended to represent piercing sunbeams.
“This hexagonal overlapping grid reminds us of the alveolar pattern bees make while making honey,” said Florquin. “The structural pillars, coated with birch plywood, represent the tree trunks.”
“The concept continues to the exterior,” said Florquin. “The facade is painted indigo black in order to create a contrast with the birch forest ceiling and its custom furniture elements in the interior.”
