Mark your calendar for JC Miller
Meet landscape architect JC Miller at his lecture discussing the recent 2005 restoration of Thomas Church’s Fay Park. With it’s charming twin gazebos hidden in Russian Hill, this 1957 Church garden was donated to the city of San Francisco in 1998. Today, it is a open public park for all to admire.
Known to many as the founding father of the modern residential landscape architect in California, Thomas Church opened the category of “California Style” to the public. Church was known for blending the modern freedom of movement with traditional design principles. He was also known for turning outdoor spaces into living spaces or “rooms.” A famous design of his is the Donnell Garden in Sonoma, CA. With Lawerence Halprin and George Rockrise, they designed this iconic Modernist landscape for the Donnell family. It is popular for its unusual quality that offers a place of relaxation and play that represents the modern “California Style.”
