Poka Dot Tents at the Olympics…
We had shown you a few of the great design for the London 2012 Olympics but one of our favorites is the polka dot tents, designed by Magma Architecture, a design firm based out of London and Berlin.
This prominent design includes three volumes coated in a double curved PVC membrane. The upper red, turquoise and pink holes will serve as ventilation, while the lower ones as entrances. The Olympic Delivery Authority, wanted sustainable features, so the temporary spaces will be reused for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and can afterwards be reused or recycled. The PVC tents erected at the historic Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich,London, are dotted with red, blue and pink circles that draw ventilation into each of the venues, as well as creating tension nodes for the steel structure beneath the white skin.
Here are a few images of the trendy tents.
