An Edible Garden for AT&T Park

AT&T Park is breaking new ground in the Farm-to-Table Movement with their plans to create an organic garden behind center-field wall. The project, designed by EDG Design Group, is still in the early stages of development, but renderings include aeroponic towers, green trellises and concrete planters which will grow a bounty of avocados, herbs, edible flowers, fruits, hearty greens and more.

The 3,000-sq. foot urban farm, named Giants Garden, will not only provide fresh, organic produce for concessions during Giants games, but also serve as a community classroom in the offseason. Many communities have seen the benefits of growing edible gardens as a productive use of land and an essential opportunity for education, however this is the first of its kind in a major American sports facility. Regulations from Major League Baseball pose many key design questions, all of which will be incorporated into the final construction slated for completion in April 2014.
