For the past 25 years, the Swedish town of Jukkasjarvi has erected the world famous ICEHOTEL, built almost entirely from ice from the nearby Torne river. The building starts to go up mid October and ready by December.
The sculptural and often ornate design of the hotels “art suites” is the work of world known artists from around the world, and is one of the most popular aspects of staying at the hotel. Prices will start from SEK 1,485,000 (US$ 231,000), making them some of the most expensive hotel rooms in the world.
“We want to create a forum in which guests can express their own design ideas and experiment with ice as an art material,” said Arne Bergh, Creative Director of Ice Hotel. “The beauty of ice is that it only exists briefly and then goes away, it unleashes an incredible creativity in people.”
