In this podcast episode, Krystal tells us about her journey from Arizona, where her interests were in more surrealist painting as seen in her favorite magazines like Juxtapoz. But it was after a trip to San Francisco and an eye-opening visit to the Academy’s Spring Show that she decided to take the leap to move to the City and enroll in the School of Illustration.
It was here that she was mentored by instructors like Chuck Pyle and met future collaborators like David Lantz and Dylan Vermeul. Not long after her graduation from the Academy, Krystal took the leap to start her own agency and began working with some of the biggest names in Silicon Valley including Google, Facebook and Uber to name a few.
Her insights into what it takes to be successful in the world of illustration, branding, and marketing provide some of the best tips for today’s students and professionals alike. Check out her keynote after the podcast.
Krystal Lauk is a freelance art director, illustrator, and the owner of the San Francisco-based boutique digital agency, Krystal Lauk Studios, and is a graduate from Academy of Art’s illustration school.
