Written and directed by animators Andrew Coast and Lou Hamou-Lhadj, “Borrowed Time” is making its way through the awards circuit and has made an impact on viewers everywhere since debuting online on Vimeo in early October for a limited time. Co-written by Pixar character animator and Academy of Art University alumnus Mark C. Harris, the animated short tells the story of a sheriff revisiting the remains of a tragic accident that continue to haunt his memories. Mark earned his BFA at Academy of Art University and has taught master classes at the university.

1.    Trained by artists from Pixar and Industrial Light and Magic.

2.    Has 10+ years of feature film experience.

3.    Worked on popular films such as “Up,” “Toy Story 3,” Ice Age: The Meltdown,” “Horton Hears a Who” and “Fantastic Four.”

4.    Consulted on virtual reality story projects for Oculus Story Studio and Penrose Studios.


SOAR is one of the largest film collaborations ever to take place at Academy of Art University based in San Francisco. From pre-production through post-production, more than 100 students and professionals contributed their work to this award-winning animated short.

In September of 2015, SOAR won the Gold Medal in Animation at the Student Academy Awards.
