Academy Weekly: Kicking off the Summer Semester

We spent the last week of summer break filling you in on important degree basics, fun facts about the SF locations relevant to Pride Month, and exciting campus art and events out and about in the city.

Academy of Art University is happy to be a part of French artist JR’s ongoing exhibit in the city, The San Francisco Chronicles. In partnership with SFMOMA, JR put up wheat-pasted artwork on top of city buildings. Find out which Art U building hosts a JR installation.

The Academy is just as supportive to our own artists, of course. Running on exhibit throughout the month of June are two shows in our Sutter galleries. Take your pick among sculpture, painting, and photography displays.

Meanwhile, we give a hearty congratulations to our many alumni who helped Bonnie’s toys come to life in Pixar’s much loved franchise, Toy Story 4.

Honoring June as Pride Month, we pay tribute to the locations in San Francisco that are quintessential landmarks for the LGBTQ+ history and movement.

Now let’s talk about art school and the many different art and design degrees you can focus on in the Academy:

With summer semester opening, last week was filled with helpful orientation events for the new students. We hope you were all able to make it!

Interested in working in film production? Find out what awaits in film school, and what you can get out of it.

Interested in advertising school and would like to get a closer look at the programs and classes available?

Looking ahead into the future and wondering what possible careers you can get out of your art and design school degrees?

Up This Week

Rise and shine! Summer school is officially open! We’re rolling out a fresh version of our Back to School series to make the transition for our new community members as easy and pleasant as possible. There’s also a couple of workshops coming up courtesy of SF Design Week, particularly for Industrial Design and Web Design and New Media.

More basic overviews for the Academy’s programs are coming your way, this time with focus on Acting, Web Design, Industrial Design, and Communications.

You’ll also get to know some important allies and advocates that helped Pride Month become the celebration that it is today.

And more! Expect so much more now that our campus is once again abuzz with young minds eager for learning and all fun things to do. Keep it posted here!
