Art U January Roundup

2020 is so far 20/20! Our women’s and men’s basketball team, track and field, and softball teams all achieved amazing results in the city’s winter months.

The new decade is starting off strong thanks to our Urban Knights for hustling hard before and during seasons. While everyone was enjoying their winter vacation, our student-athletes were training and preparing for their upcoming games. Their hard work paid off when they started winning matches and tournaments.

Women’s Basketball Athletes: Pam Wilmore and Aari’yanna Sanders

Women’s Basketball

This month was a big one for our women’s basketball team; collectively, they won multiple awards and broke program records. Starting off the month with two awards, our women’s basketball team won games against Azusa Pacific, Concordia, Dominican, and UH Hilo throughout January. Specifically, Junior guard Pam Wilmore broke the best single-game assist record at a game against Azusa Pacific.

In addition, senior guard Josselyn Morrisa made ART U record history by making nine 3-pointers in a game with Dominican. At their last game of the month, they won their game against UH Hilo with stellar performances from sophomore guard Chanel Stuart, junior guard Pam Wilmore, and junior guard/forward Lily Perkins.

Women’s Track and Field Athlete: Ombretta Picciolie Minkue Meye

Track & Field

Our track & field teams headed over to New York for their first three meets of the new decade. Darria Matthias qualified for National Provisionals in 60m while Ombretta Picciolie Minkue Meye made it for both the 60m and 200m. At their next game in Birmingham Crossplex, Camille Jouanno triple jumped to the nation’s top 10 ranking. During their last invitational of the month, Rabah Houali, Grant Swinton, Joshua Browne, and James Young broke distance medley relay program history.

Men’s Basketball Athlete: Josh Hill

Men’s Basketball

Thanks in part to junior guard Stefan Milivojevic for scoring stellar results, our men’s basketball team won their Pacific West Conference game against Holy Names. During their last game in January, the Urban Knights pulled through and won against UH Hilo by 76-66 with junior forward Josh Hill scoring “over 50% from the field”.

And that’s a wrap for our January roundup! Thank you for tuning in to our athletics monthly updates.
