Scam Alert: Students Targeted by Scammers to Help Cash Fake Checks
We would like to make you aware of a scam taking place where certain individuals are targeting Academy of Art University students by approaching them and requesting their help in cashing a check.
Often times, these scammers sound completely believable and will prey on the fact that you are willing to help others out in times of need.
If someone you don’t know wants you to cash a check and then wire some of the money back, please be aware that it is a scam.
If you are approached with such request, please decline to do so and immediately call the San Francisco Police Department at 9-1-1.
The checks may look real, but they are not. Scammers are very good at what they do and will go out of their way to use real names, real businesses, and make their checks look real to the naked eye.
If you have any additional questions, we are always here to help. You can contact our Campus Safety Department at 415.618.3911
