Leap Year 2020

Academy Weekly: February Charges Ahead Into the Leap Year

This month is literally a rare treat as 2020 marks a leap year for February. Otherwise having a mere 28 days, it gets an extra one this year. And as our blog can attest, it’s looking to be making the most out of every bit of it.

The opening week of February alone is so packed with so many goings-on, it’s easy to miss out if you’re not paying close attention enough. But that’s what the Academy Weekly is for precisely—to get you all caught up so nothing cool and important in Academy of Art University fall through the cracks.

Recognition Due

First of all, let’s take time to acknowledge and appreciate the many social and cultural contributions that members of the African-American community has provided for this country. Their history may not have been easy, but they continue to achieve and inspire with their resilience. This month, we celebrate Black History Month.

In-Campus

Meanwhile, we also welcomed the official opening of the Spring semester with a primer on all the important, basic things you should know going about your academic life in campus. We also had the Spring Club Mixer, which we hope you were able to attend so you can sign up for a club. After that, it was time to head off to the city streets to catch the—as usual—fantastic Chinese New Year Parade float by our students.

On the athletics front, the Urban Knights opened up this semester with a slew of exciting events, with one even giving you the opportunity to go home $50,000 richer! No kidding! But don’t think all they did was hibernate during the winter semester, no, not all. Maybe you were, but our dear athletes were busy doing their hustle and winning games. Don’t believe us? Check out the January roundup here.

Cool School Things

School’s officially open (as we’ve said way too many times by now, just making sure you’re no longer in denial about it), but that doesn’t mean you can’t learn outside of it too. Right here on the blog, we give you interesting and useful information about your industry or topics of interests.

Such as the following, for example:

For added inspirational value, we also had Part 2 of the Subaru x School of Industrial Design project, where the students prepared for their first major pitch to the car designers. Now that’s one nerve-wracking but exciting midterms!

Oh, and just before we hit the Oscars weekend, we went a little ways back to the Grammy’s. It’s well worth the trip, especially once you see the digital grand piano design by our alum, which was played by no less than singer-songwriter H.E.R.

Up This Week

There’s no slowing down now, so all you have to do is keep it posted here on the blog for more of these updates. Some of the things you can look forward to this week include Part 3 of the Subaru x Industrial Design project series, some snapshots from the successful Chinese New Year Parade, the Razz Awards, some video games adapted into films, and portfolio trends.

You know that’s just the tip of the iceberg too, so keep it locked here!
